Can't imagine Dr. Perry calling him a thief or doing anything close to it without first checking the facts, trying to figure out where you see he was accused of being a thief by him or anyone according to the article? Not seeing anything at all like that.
7/21/11 post says "When he said putting gas from those pumps was illegal" quoted from Salyers.

Okay? How do you get that's Dr. Perry calling him a thief or anything close to it? When I read that, to me it says "after he told me that, I decided to resign in case someone wanted to bring charges against me". Dr. Perry stating a fact isn't accusing him of anything and I can't see him accusing Salyers or anything of the sort. Apparently it is indeed illegal since they don't pay taxes on the gas, tax-exempt gas can't be used in personal vehicles, no matter what he was using it for. Someone said that the former-mayor of St. Paul pleaded guilty to the very same thing years ago, so it is an actual law, not a SB rule. There's a group of people that will jump on anything and considering this was illegal(as harmless as it is), there's not a doubt some would jump all over it and attempt to crucify him. Sad and a shame, but that's some of the type of people we share a county with, they'll do anything to progress their agenda and that includes trying to take others down.

".... but when he said putting gas from those pumps into a private vehicle was illegal — that’s when I decided to resign.” That's the exact quote, not what you wrote.

If he were to be charged with a crime it would be for misappropriation of the gas, which is the same as misappropriation of anything, including funds. Which in court would fall under the same basic thing as embezzlement, which is what? Theft.

If it was only about the tax issue, that can be resolved easily without there being any issue over the taxes. Remember I worked in the gas and oil business for 28 years. I've dealt with these exact issues hundreds of times. Only if there is a clear attempt to avoid paying the road taxes is there a crime committed. If it was a clear oversight, as this obviously is, then the number of gallons used can simply be calculated at .244 and .160 and paid. No harm no foul. Seen it done, and done it. Those were the old total btw, I understand that they are different now.

Again, if Collins did okay this ahead of time he and someone wants to consider it an illegal act then Collins would have to be considered in violation also. That's pretty plain and simple.

    Re: Did BI resign???

Goodness. That's the quote and that's the charges that would have been brought against him, no one has argued that. Trying to claim that by saying this, this means that, he's calling him that. Trying to claim that, according to that line, Dr. Perry was calling him a thief and doing so without even knowing the whole story isn't true at all. I wasn't listening in to the convo obviously, but I do know the person in question and what kind of person he is at least. I don't think for one second he accused him of stealing or even thought he was trying to steal it, according to Salyers all he said was that it was illegal and he resigned after - not claiming he was being accused of theft by Dr. Perry or anyone in charge, more like there's a potential that he could and maybe would be by others. Him saying it was illegal wasn't jumping to conclusions either as claimed, it's illegal either way and ignorance of the law doesn't change that or whether he has permission from the principal - it's irrelevant in terms of legality as it stands, now that could have an impact on how it would be dealt with, but it's still illegal. After reading about it, I never thought he was trying to steal anything and I certainly don't think anyone in that central office thought so either, let alone accuse him of it. Nothing here says Dr. Perry or anyone in charge jumped the gun, anyone that knows him can probably attest that him going off accusing someone would be the last thing he would do. It seems really harmless, it is IMO, but to others wanting to make this as difficult as possible and having their own agenda this could have turned very ugly for Salyers with some trying to drag his name through the mud.

    Re: Did BI resign???

Ok i have been reading this on hear and I read the srtory in the paper. I dont personaly know BI but withour a doubt he has done a good job caoching at three different schools. But everyone on here is missing the point I think what is written on here and the story as according to the coach sounds simple enough. There is more to this and everyone should know that. If it were one time of misusing the gas this would not be happening there most be more to it. I know people are in his corner and that is fine but if it was one time paying it back would take care of the issue. Plus BI would have a lawsuit on his hands and would win it easliy. I am noting accusing him of anything but come on the man has 3 kids and doesnt walk away from a job cutting jis income in half. two weeks and the season starts finish it out and he could find his job as a head coach somewhere. So using common sense tells me there is more.

I have no idea where you're getting that I think this is a black and white issue, I just clearly repeated over and over that this is essentially a grey area because while it's illegal...it was harmless and should have never been blown up. My whole point was that there were some that see it as black/white, that it was illegal and the reasons be damned a long as he's gone or at least painted negatively. How you got that I was the one thinking he was wrong for what he did, I'll never know. I couldn't care less about him doing what he did, but I have been involved with this whole issue for several months now and know what kind of people we're dealing with on both sides. That's why I have no doubt that Dr. Perry wasn't accusing him and have no doubt that some would have milked it for all it was worth. If you knew how some of these people are, the kind of things they do/claim/attempt, you'd understand why he resigned. The stories you hear never do justice to how far some of them are willing to go.

I think you all are arguing the same point. Everyone knows where the complaint came from and why. Yeah, it was illegal, but was his intent illegal? Like Gotch said, let him pay the tax and be done with it.

If this has been going for several months, why haven't you mentioned it? And why would anybody from Appy care? I'm gonna bet you'd fit in a loose description of do/claim/attempt. Come to think of it, a "loose description " might just be a catch all for ya.

    Re: Did BI resign???

What? Looks like you completely misread what I said, I said this "whole issue" meaning consolidation, not "this issue". I'm not the least bit involved in this particular issue, I do know some of the ones involved and when claims were made about them, that's when I came in.

And I'm not sure it's as cut and dry with the "pay taxes and go on", though I could be wrong...I'm not sure that's how this could have been resolved. Maybe if there were no complaints and potential threats involved, but when there might be a board member calling for his head, it's just not going to go away. It would have been fought bitterly, yes for something as dumb as this, and any attempt to sweep it under the rug would have been seen as favoritism too. Damned if it he does, damned if he doesn't, that's the position he was in after due to a pathetic group.
